Robotic Retrieval System
Overview
Claw Kent is a robotic claw built to detect and retrieve objects automatically, using ultrasonic sensing to "see" what's in front of it before deciding to grip.
Mechanical Design
The claw assembly was designed in SolidWorks using sheet metal modeling — planning out the bends, tabs, and fasteners so the design could actually be fabricated from flat stock rather than only existing as a 3D model.
Fabrication
Fabricated and assembled entirely with hand tools and sheet metal techniques, cutting and bending each piece to match the SolidWorks model while keeping material usage efficient.
Sensing & Control Logic
An ultrasonic sonar sensor gives the claw feedback about nearby objects, driving the control logic that detects when something is within reach and triggers a responsive grip — rather than gripping blindly on a fixed timer or manual trigger.
Result
A working claw that reliably detects and retrieves objects using sensor feedback instead of open-loop control — a solid first project in combining mechanical fabrication with sensing and control logic.
